Journal of Adaptive Structures

About the Journal

Aims and Scope

Smart and adaptive structures are increasingly becoming a focus of interest for future generations of aircraft. The Journal of Adaptive Structures (JAS) brings together emerging technologies for adaptive smart structures, including advanced materials, smart actuation, sensing and control, to pursue the progressive adoption of the major scientific achievements in this multidisciplinary field on-board of commercial aircraft. The journal covers a wide range of application areas spanning from innovative flexible and topology optimized aircraft wing structures based on complaint and rigid-body mechanisms, to smart actuators, sensors, and control strategies for adaptive noise and vibration control. Focus is also given to reliability and safety-related issues for future aircraft applications.

The Journal of Adaptive Structures (JAS) publishes original research papers, review papers, case studies, and patent alerts on the latest innovations in methodologies, technologies, and products within the fields of smart adaptive structures. The subtopics covered include but are not limited to the following:

  • Active and Passive Smart Structures and Integrated Systems
  • Sensing, actuation, and control of adaptive structures
  • Biomimetics and topology optimization for morphing wing applications (Compliant and rigid-body mechanisms, hybrid architectures)
  • Active noise and vibration control and integrated approaches
  • Additive manufacturing-enabled design theory and experimental approaches for smart structures characterization and qualification
  • Safety, fault hazard analysis and certification aspects of smart structural systems

Open Access

Journal of Adaptive Structures is a gold open access publication which means that all published manuscripts are freely available for unlimited access.

Open access publishing provides immediate, worldwide free access to all published manuscripts. Readers can view, download, print, and redistribute any article without any financial barrier, enabling greater distribution of an article.

Once published, the article will be made free to read and reuse upon publication under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) licence.

The publication costs of an article are paid from an author's research budget, or by their supporting institution. These Article Processing Charges replace subscription charges covers the costs of manuscript processing, online availability, hosting and archiving. All Science Publications’ content is archived in Portico, which provides archiving services to scholarly journals.

All Science Publication’s journals adhere to the open access policy. Once our highly qualified Editorial Board has accepted the manuscript, authors will receive an invoice including the publication charges for their manuscript.
