Structural Applications of Thin Glass
Description
In very recent years, thin glass, commonly available in (touch)screens on tablets, smartphones and other electronic devices, is moving its first steps in the built environment. Due to its low weight, high impact resistance, excellent optical quality, ability to be cold-bent up to small radii, it seems to be the optimal material for the realization of extremely deformable structural elements for facades and building skins. This opens doors for architects and designers to its use as a flexible and lightweight cladding material without compromising on safety and aesthetics. Indeed, in very recent years, several authors are proposing and exploiting the pioneering use of ultrathin glass for structural and architectural purposes.
This special issue aims at publication of high-quality and peer-reviewed papers reporting experimental, theoretical and numerical studies on innovative structural use of thin glass, exploring new fields of applications for this material or creating new design possibilities for architects.
Full-length original papers, as well as review articles and case studies are welcome for possible publication in this issue.
